With a tackle box full of memories and a life well-lived, we say a heartfelt goodbye to Ronald "Ronnie" Sweet, who cast his final line on March 30, 2025. Born on April 16, 1938, Ronnie lived 86 wonderful years reeling in good times, great laughs, and even better fish stories. A proud Las Vegas native, Ronnie attended Historic Fifth Street Elementary and graduated from Las Vegas High School, where he first learned that the best bait for life is a good sense of humor. He served his country as an Army Reservist, then anchored down a successful 25+ year career with Wackenhut, where his work ethic was as steady as his fishing hand. Ronnie was the beloved husband of Franciel Sweet, and together they created a beautiful family with sons Dennis, Michael, and Stephen Sweet, and daughter Leslie Sweet. He was a proud grandfather to Jimmy and Jazmynne Mitchell, and a great-grandfather to Christian, Leila, Kendall, and Kingston - the best catch of his later years. Ronnie was preceded in death by his grandfather William Sweet, mother Eva Mae Sweet, father Vance Moore and brothers Wayne and Donald Johnson. He now joins his 1st cousin Herman Sweet Sr. in that great big fishing hole in the sky. He is survived by his older sister Ruth Jordan. He leaves behind his first cousins Darryl Johnson and Laveda Chapell, a big net full of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends who all felt the warmth of his kindness and the charm of his storytelling - especially if it involved a fishing rod. Special thanks to Cecil Fredi, Robin Roberts, Roger Davidson, and Jeffray Caldwell for being part of Ronnie's crew. And to Herman "Binky" Sweet Jr. and the Final 4 Crew, those yearly visits meant the world. We'll never forget those Wednesday outings with the Fishing Buddies at Rush Carter's Boom Boom Room - now that was Ronnie's idea of heaven on earth. And to Eva Lopez, The Giving Team of nurses, Gloria, Sherri, Juliet, Steven, Andres, Judy, Rose, Maricela, Benedict and CNA's Evaline, Rita and Lola and everyone who touched this family - THANK YOU for being part of Ronnie's journey. Ronnie always said, "Any day was a good fishing day," and now he's found his favorite fishing spot, where the water's always calm, the fish always bite, and the stories never end. So here's to Ronnie Sweet - a loving husband, devoted father, loyal friend, and the kind of man who knew that the best things in life aren't things ... they're the people you love and the time you spend, preferably with a fishing pole in hand. Gone fishing ... but never forgotten.
A memorial service for Ronald will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Tried Stone Baptist Church, 639 W Carey Ave, North Las Vegas, NV 89030.
