Rosa Rodriguez passed away into eternal peace and rest on March 20, 2020 at the age of 93 in Las Vegas, NV. Rosa (Rosita) was born in Monassen, PA on April 10, 1926 to her parents who preceded her in death -- her charismatic father Andres S. Rodriguez and her loving mother Antonia Martinez Rodriguez. She is also preceded in death by her husband Humberto O. Rodriguez and two sisters: Evangelin R. (Vangie) Hinojosa and Adela R. (Lala) Kitchen and a brother Andres Rodriguez. She is survived by her two sons: Dr. Humberto Rodriguez, Jr. and David Rodriguez both residing in Las Vegas, NV; two living sisters: Julia R. Leyendecker of Houston, Texas and Alicia R. Mendez of San Antonio, Texas.
Rosa grew up during the end of the roaring 20’s and lived through the depression years and World War II. Her strong will and independent spirit led her in her late teen years to venture (solo) to the State of Washington where she worked as a ‘riviter’ on the assembly line of war planes. She returned to Laredo in the mid 1940’s to attend Cosmetology School and In 1949 she married Humberto Oregon (El Pelon) Rodriguez who operated a Vending and Juke Box business for years till his passing in 1984.
Except for the last ten years of her life, Rosa lived in Laredo, Texas where she was well known for her excellence in cosmetology. In her early years as a hairstylist, she won many awards as an accomplished cosmetologist-beautician. Her entrepreneurial spirit lead her to establish her first Beauty Salon: Rosa’s House of Beauty circa 1948 following her graduation from Cosmetology School. In the early 60’s she then opened Rose Beauty Salon (on Clark St.). She attempted early retirement in the mid 70’s only to rekindle her love of hairstyling by taking clients by appointment only which continued well into the late 80’s and early 90’s. After nearly 50 years of practice she entered retirement with a new found faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ and engaged in many charitable concerns and continued to grow in her unwavering faith. The highlight of her retirement was a trip she took to the Holy Land with the Ministry of John Hagee. Her roommate during the two week retreat was the famous Country singer Loretta Lynn.
Rosa loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She was benevolent and compassionate beautiful soul throughout her life and despite some limitations lived it to the fullest. Her fammily and friends will truly miss her unique brand and humor. Per her wishes she will be cremated at Palm Mortuaries in Las Vegas, NV.
