Shirley Gail Colbert

Shirley Gail Jones was born October 29, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee to Atlena Gilmer and Herman Jones. In 1956, young Shirley relocated to Los Angeles, CA; where she met and married Thomas Floyd while attending the University of California, Los Angeles. Born from this union were four (4) children, the first, Thomas, shortly after Timothy, Tonia and Trina. Shirley is survived by three (3) sisters, Dora Echols, Atlena Frazier, and Betty Winfrey, one (1) sister-in-law, Claudia Jones, one (1) brother, Ruben Jones; Lifelong friend, Annette May Thomas; four (4) children, their spouses or significant others; Thomas Floyd (Rose Floyd), Timothy Floyd (Elizabeth Floyd), Tonia Whitney (Anthony Whitney), Trina Monsalvatge (Rickey Otis Sr.) Eleven (11) grandchildren; Elois Floyd, Maurice Windham, Bryan Floyd, Michael Windham, Mellownee Floyd, Anthony G. Whitney, Rickey Otis Jr., Charles Monsalvatge Jr., Cornisha Whitney, Aliyah Monsalvatge and Trae Floyd, Ten (10) great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved parents Atlena and Herman Jones, Husband, Dewitt Colbert, siblings; Dezilean Jones, Russell Jones, Willie Jones, Lerlean Jones, Herman Jones Jr., Maudine Cartwright, and lifelong friend Johnnie L. Cochran Jr.
