Susan E. White was born on February 22,1960 to her parents Robert T.D. White and Charlotte M. White in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Susan was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was named after her great-grandmother Susan Freeman-Dina.
Susan loved singing, acting, dancing and music. While attending Warren Harding High School she played on the softball team as a pitcher and catcher. She attended an African Dance school called Youthbridge where she learned African Dancing. The school put on a wonderful dance performance that was televised on a Public Television Network. After graduating in 1977, she attended the University of New Haven. While there, she portrayed one of the characters in the play “For colored girls who considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf” by Ntozake Shange. Susan received a standing ovation.
Susan moved to Los Angeles in 1980. She studied English and Psychology at Los Angeles College. She also sang at a local Jazz Club on their talent night segments. She went to work for the City of Los Angeles in 1982 in the Finance Department. She remained there for over 30 years. She was a very professional, dedicated hard worker. She wrote and self-published a book about her weight loss journey in 2003. She also met her husband Paul Meaway that same year. They got married in December 2004. After retiring in 2013, Susan moved to Las Begas to help take care of her mother.
She started family “Birthday shout-outs” through group texts. She kept track of all the siblings birthdays, and would make sure we all got acknowledged by each other on that special day. Later she started the same thing for her nieces and nephews so that they could stay connected. Susan was a very loving person with a big heart of gold. She had an infectious laugh, and she loved her husband, family and friends very much. Her favorite card game was Bid Whist, and she was a good and shrewd player. She was very giving of herself and her time. Although she never had any biological children of her own, she had a deep and passionate mothering nature to all those around her. She was a very generous person who always sought to bless others who were in need. She will be deeply missed.
