Thomas Aquinas Hermanny was born July 20, 1950 in St. Gorgas Hospital in Ancon, Canal Zone to Albert Ira John Hermanny and Ann Rose Faris Hermanny. He is survived by his four siblings: Eugene, Albert, Rita, and Joseph, and his five children: Andrew, Theresa, Veronica, Alicia, and Elizabeth.
Thomas, called Tom, Tommy, Tuco, Tommy Tom, and many other nicknames by those closest to him, grew up in the Canal Zone in Panama.
Tom served in the United States Air Force for 22 years and worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2012. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Yong Cha Hermanny, from their wedding day on June 6, 1976 until her untimely death on April 25, 2010. He was a devout Catholic and shared his faith and prayers with his wife, children, relatives, friends, and acquaintances. He was a kindhearted, funny, gentle man who would go out of his way to make a friend feel welcomed and loved. He loved to hear new jokes and to pass them along whenever he had the opportunity. He was truly a man of service whether it included his neighbors, friends, his parish as a Eucharistic Minister, or other community charities, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He always took the time to reach out to those he loved via phone calls, texts, and his most beloved handwritten letters and cards. He was always thoughtful and did his best to remember anniversaries and birthdays. He was considerate, punctual, the safest driver, and a gentleman in every way.
In his free-time, he would pray, write letters, enjoy westerns and comedies, read, donate, complete home improvement projects, spend time with a friend, or share a meal with his family.
He lived by the phrase, “Start each day in a happy way” and would begin each day with a prayer or daily mass at his local parish. He said, “Through God, all things are possible” and he thanked God everyday for taking care of his family through the good times and the bad.
He believed that one of the greatest forms of love was the sharing of sorrow. The number of lives he touched feel incredible sorrow at the irreplaceable loss of him.
He was an amazing man, caring father, loving brother, and a true friend. He is deeply, deeply missed.
