Vincinetta Barone McCoy passed away peacefully on October 15, 2016 in the presence of her loving husband of 69 years, Harold (Jim) McCoy. She was 90 years old. There will be a Funeral Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive, Las Vegas, NV on November 3, 2016 at 10 AM. Burial service will be private at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Vincinetta met the love of her life, Jim, in 1943 and they immediately knew they would spend the rest of their lives together. After World War II, Jim enlisted in the Army, served in Germany, and upon his honorable discharge in 1947, Vincinetta and Jim married on July 19, 1947 in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The Lord then blessed them with five children: Carol Perkowski (Ron), Janelle Kirkendall (John), MaryJane Naser (Leo), Jim McCoy (Ellen) and Donna Fitzgerald (Tad). The Lord’s blessings continued with sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. In 1962 Jim and Vincinetta moved from their home in Niagara Falls, N.Y. to Las Vegas for the construction boom. Vinnie never questioned or complained but simply let her husband lead the family where he could best provide for them. Vinnie sold the few belongings they possessed and said good-bye to her parents Mary and Sam Barone and her only sibling Louis Barone, and wife, June. Jim had gone ahead to Las Vegas to prepare a home for his family and a few months later Vinnie boarded a Greyhound bus with five children in tow and began the trek across the country. As they re-united with Jim in Las Vegas, he took his family to the Shrine at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Boulder highway to give thanks to God for a safe trip. Vincinetta loved being a homemaker and had the gift of making a house a warm and inviting home. She always welcomed anyone and everyone into their home and once through the door, she made you something to eat whether you were hungry or not! YOU ATE! She was a wonderful cook and could make something delicious out of very few ingredients. Her best gift was remembering her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with little gifts she had chosen especially for them like bracelets and necklaces. She also had the knack for hiding money gifts in their purses, jackets or bags so upon arriving home, they would wonder how she secretly, “stashed a treasure” into their belongings. These little things gave her joy and happiness. Vincinetta always cared and loved her family. Her legacy is not complete without remembering wonderful family holiday gatherings in the “warehouse”. Being a construction family, Jim and Vinnie had a large warehouse in the back of their home and for Christmas, Easter and any special occasion their large family had a place to eat, play and visit together. Children would ride scooters around the warehouse and the pot-bellied stove would warm the space. “Warehouse” family get-togethers are a very special memory and legacy her family will never forget. Thanks, Mom and Dad! Last year their daughter found Vincinetta’s wedding gown in a box wrinkled and yellowed with time. She asked her mother if she would put her wedding dress on and she said, “yes”. This was the day of Jim and Vincinetta’s 68th Wedding Anniversary. Vincinetta then proceeded to say, “I met the man of my dreams 70 years ago when I was 18 and he was 16. I didn’t care, I loved him then and I love him today. Forever and ever. Amen! “ Then they held hands. We will miss you, Mom. You were a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Thank you for giving us life and taking such good care of us. We will miss our best friend forever, but thankful that you are now in the Lord’s loving arms.
