Wilbur Wayne Plant, 83, passed away on February 23, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by his loved ones. Wilbur was born to Wayne and Eva Ison Plant on September 16, 1936 in Akron, Colorado and was the eldest of five children.
Wilbur is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joy Plant, his children Doug Plant of Center CO, Kevin Plant(Liz) of Las Vegas, NV, Bruce Plant and wife Joyce of Avistion, IL, Brett Plant of Trinidad, CO and Sheila Martinez(Joe) of Las Vegas, NV. 3 grandchildren, Taylor Plant and fiancé Manika Ward, Courtney Arroyo and husband Chris and Kaitlyn Martinez, all of Las Vegas, NV. Wilbur is also survived by his sister, Shari Schantz of CO, sister-in-laws Donna Plant of MT, Judy Whitmore, Kay Wells and Mary Lou Walton and husband Larry, all of Greeley, CO and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Eva Plant, mother and father-in-law Bernice and M.M. Snyder, brothers Gary and Charles, sister Phyllis and husband Jim Brower, brother-in-laws Jack Schantz, Loren Whitmore, Gary Wells and nephew Charlie Plant.
Wilbur attended elementary school in Pueblo and Platner, CO and then high school in Otis, CO where he graduated in 1954. He married Joy Snyder in 1953 and celebrated 66 wonderful years together and welcomed 5 children together.
He began working at a very young age in the filling station and auto repair shop for his Grandpa Ison in Platner and later for his Uncle “Sparky” Ison in the same business for many years. He was also employed by Crosier Electric in Akron, CO and then owned the Otis Filter Sales business in Otis for years before moving to Las Vegas, NV.
Wilbur was a member of the Otis Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years and also served on the Otis Town Council and Otis School Board of Education. He enjoyed being a member of the Otis Lion Club for 20 years and the Sterling Elks Lodge for 26 years.
After moving to Las Vegas in 1990 Wilbur was employed by several different electrical companies. He then worked on the monorail system for the MGM Hotel/ Casino for 8 years and finally for Manheim Auto Auction for several years before retiring in 2005.
Wilbur will be missed by many friends and especially by his loving family.
Wilbur will be buried in Otis, CO. Graveside service will be announced at a later date.
