

Charles, the son of James Francis and Marie Sullivan Houppert, was born June 18, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He moved to Dayton, Tennessee, in the mid 50’s through the mid 60’s and went to Rhea County High School where he learned how to play trombone. Upon graduating from high school, In 1964, Charles received a music scholarship to the University of Tennessee (UT). While at UT he was drafted into the U. S. Army in the mid 60s were he was deployed to Korea and Vietnam.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, on January 14, 1970, Charles enrolled at the University of South Alabama to continue his college education in music. From there he joined a local rock band in Mobile, Alabama, called Mrs O’Leary’s Cow.
Charles later moved to Atlanta and became a member of a 9 piece rock band consisting of two guitars, bass, drums, keyboard, and two trumpets and two trombones. The band’s name was Micropolis.
Micropolis was an amazing band with an amazing sound that played all over the southeast. They were one of the best bands, in the southeast, that never got “The Break”. Life and families led to dissolution of the group but it was and still is alive in all our memories. He then went on and had a club disc jockey career in the music/night club scene in Atlanta, Georgia until he retired. He was a well-loved club DJ.
Charles is predeceased by his brother Ernest Rodriguez Houppert “Rod” Rod’s wife Linda Susan Kaiser Houppert and his parents James Francis and Marie Sullivan Houppert. He is survived by many friends in many states and by wife Laura Maddox Hefton Roswell, GA; Daughter Angela (Kevin) Lee Cota, Cartersville, GA; his siblings, Carole (Jim) Stevenson, Austin, TX; Edward (Roxanne) Houppert, Lilburn, GA; and Lloyd Houppert, Florida; two nieces, Command Sergeant Major Jessica Brook Houppert, Fort Cavazos, Killeen, TX; and Beth (TC) Richard (and great nephew, Thomas). Lilburn, GA and one nephew, Daniel (Abby) Stevenson, Austin, TX.
