With a blend of sorrow and cherished memories, we honor the life of David Adam Baker, who fell asleep in death on December 2, 2023, at the age of 45. David was born in Detroit, Michigan to Arthur and Leezette Baker, and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. David's life was a vibrant tapestry of faith, love, and resilience.
David's spiritual journey as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, beginning with his baptism on June 16, 1990, was a central part of his life. He served with zeal as an
Elder and Regular Pioneer (full-time minister), deeply committed to his faith. His fluency in Spanish allowed him to connect deeply with the Spanish-speaking community and share his faith, embodying the hope found in scriptures like Acts 24:15 and John 5:28, 29 about the resurrection hope.
David's fiery personality was as memorable as it was inspiring. Despite living with Sickle Cell Anemia, he made a conscious decision not to let it define him. His strength in the face of adversity was a source of admiration and encouragement to all who really knew him. He was, without a doubt, the strongest person we knew.
His love for his family knew no bounds. David's beloved wife of 11 years, Janoah, was the love of his life, and they served together in the Spanish and English congregations. They served together in many areas theocratically including pioneering, going to pioneer school together, serving where the need is great and working with the R.B.C and the LDC. With their fur baby Lola, they shared a home full of love and laughter. His best friend, Michael Donald, stood by him through thick and thin, sharing in both joys and challenges.
David was the youngest child and only boy and despite the fact that he denied being spoiled he was indeed adored and spoiled by his parents and older sisters Lauren and Renee. The girls frequently had to remind him he was not their boss. Their bond was a testament to the deep and enduring love that defined David's relationships with his family.
As we reflect on David's life, we are comforted by scriptures that he cherished, such as Job 14:15, which speaks of God's longing for the work of His hands, and the promise in John 5:28, 29 of a time when all those in the memorial tombs will hear Christ's voice and come out.
David was preceded in death by Arthur Baker/ father, Aaron Jones/ Brother in law, and uncles James Manuel and John Baker. He is survived by Janoah Baker/ wife, Leezette Baker/ mother (Arthur Baker), Lauren Jones/ Sister (Aaron Jones), Renee Hughes/ Sister (Randy Hughes) Allen Baker/ uncle, Tony Baker/uncle, Catherine Smith/ aunt, Joe Baker (Penelope)/aunt,Oliver Baker (Carolyn)/uncle, Joyce Jeffries/aunt. Remarks from the family-
David's legacy is not just in the roles he fulfilled but in the lives he touched and the hope he shared. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and genuine love for all will be profoundly missed. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life that was a beacon of faith, love, and selfless service.
As we say “see you soon” to David, we find solace in the memories and in the resurrection hope he so firmly embraced.
