Doreen, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, met Sidney Ventus at the age of 16. Their love led to marriage on August 14th, 1976 and endured 42 years until his passing in October 2018. A longtime resident of Lilburn, Georgia, with her husband Sidney, Doreen joined the Salem Missionary Baptist Church and served under the leadership of the Rev. Richard B. Haynes. She was very instrumental in teaching students to attain their GED and remained faithful until the decline of
her health.
Doreen was an avid learner herself. She received an Associates of Arts and Sciences from Pierce College, a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Central Washington University, and attained her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She retired in 2019 after serving 15 years at the State of Georgia as an Employment Consultant. Prior to that, she was employed with NCR Corporation for 9+ years as a Software Specialist. She also had 15+ years of supervisory experience, 10+ years of medical experience, and 5 years of Project Management experience.
Doreen loved to travel all over the globe. If she was not traveling, she was planning to travel. She always carried her unforgettable laugh and beautiful smile to every destination which will be missed greatly by all. She also enjoyed shopping (she was so stylish), dancing (she could really cut a rug), horror movies, true crime stories, reading (she always had a good book in hand), attending plays, festivals, and concerts, R&B music (she loved Bruno Mars and old school hits), playing Scrabble (you needed a dictionary to keep up with her), volunteering (the Lupus Foundation of America, American Diabetes Association, and other efforts), helping those in need, and creating fun memories with family and friends.
Doreen leaves to cherish her memory: her children, daughter, Kellian Leigh, son, Nicholas Ventus, and brothers Larry Davis and Wayne Davis, like a brother, Michael (Alice Marie) Dawson, her loyal companion pet Chelsea, and a host of loving and devoted extended family members and friends.
A limited seating memorial service will be held June 19th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Lilburn, GA with the Rev. Richard B. Haynes officiating. A repass will follow immediately after at a separate location.
