
Foster Albert Hotard Sr., 97, of Atlanta died peacefully on September 15 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Teresa (Barrett) Hotard; devoted father of Mary Margaret Pappas and her husband, Bill of Newton, MA; Foster Albert Hotard Jr. and his wife, Margie of Savannah, GA; John Barrett Hotard and his wife, Marilyn of New York City; Teresa (Hotard) Beckwith, and her husband Larry of Atlanta; dear brother of James S. Hotard and his wife, Patricia of New Orleans, LA; cherished grandfather of Benjamin. Matthew, Meredith. Albert, Stephen, Michael, Sam and Kate; great-grandfather
of Katerina, Charlotte, Henry, Mason, Vivian, Lucy, Amelia, and Elliott; and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Foster was a World War II and Korean War veteran, retired lieutenant colonel, US Air Force. He served as a flight and instrument instructor, first at Army Air Field, Dodge City, Kansas 1942- 1945 and post war as a flight and instrument instructor and operations officer at Rhein Main Air Base, Frankfurt, Germany. He also established an Instrument Flight School, which trained pilots throughout Europe and he flew in the Berlin Airlift, 1948-1949. He was in the film and cinema industry in its early years as a young salesman in New Orleans during the early 40’s and returned to work in the industry in the 1950’s through the1980’s as a senior executive in Atlanta as a Paramount Pictures Branch Manager, Vice President of Martin Theaters, Inc., and a Vice President of Fuqua Industries, Inc. Foster was an active and long time member of Our Lady of Assumption Church in Brookhaven for six decades, involved both as an usher and in a wide range of charitable activities with his caring wife Teresa.
The funeral mass will be said on Monday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. (Gathering of Friends at 10 a.m.) at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 1350 Hearst Drive, N.E., Atlanta. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be sent to St. Pius X Catholic High School Scholarship Memorial Fund, 2674 Johnson Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30345.
