She was best known for her portrayal as Carlotta Valdez in the 1958 Hitchcock classic, Vertigo. In 1959, Joanne was cast as the witch in Darby O’Gill and the Little People. In 1964, Joanne retired from dancing and movies to marry famed Glenn Miller singer, Ray Eberle. In 1970, she returned to the public eye once again as lead runway model for Jordan Marsh of Palm Beach. Her personal interests revolved around producing and directing local theater for Southside Theater Guild outside of Atlanta. In addition, her interest in Collie breeding and showing won her competition titles. She later became a canine judge for the Collie Club of America. Joanne Genthon Eberle’s movies will live on as will her infectious sense of humor. She is survived by four children: John, Ray Jr., Jan, and Laurie.
