
Mr. Robert Joseph Mason, 90, of Atlanta died Monday, September 25, 2017. His wife, Nancy Davies Mason, predeceased him by 27 days. They were married more than 65 years. He is survived by his three children: Robert (Gail) of Birmingham, AL; Thomas Mason of Hoschton, GA; and William (Susan) Mason of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren: Drew Mason, Nicole Mason, Kyle Mason and Kelli Wallace (Brian); and many loving friends and caregivers.
Bob got his Bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He was an MP in the US Army, stationed in Europe during World War II. Bob spent his entire 35+ year professional career as an underwriter for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
He was a longtime member of Shallowford Presbyterian Church where he spent more than 25 years teaching Sunday school. He also was an active and enthusiastic member of the choir. Bob was a wonderful and talented musician, who loved playing piano duets with his wife, Nancy.
Bob enjoyed his volunteer work at St. Joseph's Hospital and at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, where he was an usher at the Imax Theater. He was an avid gardener and masters bridge player. Bob took pride in being a snappy dresser! He always looked forward to watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”.
A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be Saturday, September 30th, at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fernbank Museum of Natural History (fernbankmuseum.org).
