Care, her nickname since childhood, loved the ocean. She would sit on the balcony and just watch and listen to it. Sometimes, she’d get out the binoculars and watch for dolphins.
Care loved other animals too. She was a big panda fan, and a supporter of the World Wildlife Fund, which works towards panda preservation. We have an artificial bamboo bush in our condo, with a stuffed panda sitting in it. She was also drawn in by bald eagles, and would watch the webcam of the Pittsburgh pairing couple for hours, especially when the young birds hatched, and grew. She attended get-togethers with other eagle watchers when we lived in Pittsburgh. And of course, she also spoiled our two cats rotten. They no longer beg for treats, they demand them.
Care was in no way a football fan, but enjoyed the good times on our annual trip to a Notre Dame football weekend. Some of the displayed pictures show those good times.
She also enjoyed the weekly trivia contest at a local bar. Care was the team’s “go to” player on the Mysterious Eyes category, where they show only the eyes of a famous person and you need to say who it is.
Most importantly, Care was a loving partner to her spouse, a wonderful mother to her children (she regularly tried to talk them into moving to the beach near her), and a loyal friend to those who knew and loved her.
Care is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas, her children, Thomas and Lauren, brothers Norman, Paul, and Eric, and sisters Anne and Laura. She was preceded in death by brothers David and Paul.
A visitation for Carolyn will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
