David John Waters, PhD was born in San Diego, California. A long-time resident of Hagerstown, Maryland, he passed away at the age of 76 at 2:30 PM on Monday, May 6 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Dr. Waters earned his doctorate in Microbiology from the University of Kansas in 1972. He was an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine from 1979-1986 and a Lecturing Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Harvard Medical School from 1981 - 1986. Prior to his retirement in 2015 he was the Senior Scientist at NCI in Frederick, Maryland. He was a devout Catholic and avid gardener who enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie; his three daughters Jeanne Pino, Marie Evans and Elise Thullen as well as his sons-in-law Samuel Pino and Aaron Evans. He was a proud grandfather of his four grandchildren Daniel and Eric Pino, John Evans and Mícheál Gitta Donnelly.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in honorarium to the Knights of Columbus through Our Lady Star of the Sea in North Myrtle Beach.
