Evelyn began her life in Ipswich England as the daughter of Elsie and Robert Watt. She was born into a large family. She was one of 8 children. It was in England where she met and fell in love with her husband of 59 years Gerald F. McCarthy. Gerald was in the US Air Force and had been stationed overseas. They married in the winter of 1961 in England. Once Gerald completed his service in the US Air Force, they returned to the US to begin their married life. Evelyn lived a life caring for others. She was a traditional housewife who believed it was her duty to care for her family. She took great pride in her ability to keep a well-run household. She also enjoyed decorating her home. She loved to paint and wallpaper. She was always taking on new projects. She appreciated the warmer months in New England and took the opportunity to spend time outdoors. She would take great pleasure in harvesting her own garden with the help of her children. She frequently shared stories of when she was a young girl helping her dad in their garden. She was passionate about bright colors and would take such delight in planting beautiful flowers all over our yard. Evelyn was also skilled in knitting, crocheting, and sewing. All skills taught to her by her mother. As a proud great grandmother Evelyn knitted a sweater set for her first great grandchild, Jasper. Throughout the years Evelyn worked in many different fields, as window designer, childcare provider and a business owner. Once her children were raised, Evelyn and Gerry embarked on a new venture together. They both desired a warmer climate and had an opportunity to establish a Vacation Rental business in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Out of a tremendous amount of love for her husband and his belief in his ideas she fully supported him. Not only did they start a successful business, but they enjoyed doing it together. Her love for her husband was astounding being a young girl from England moving to the United States then settling in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for their remaining years. She would follow him anywhere. Because she took a leap of faith moving to South Carolina she gave her children and grandchildren wonderful memories at the beach.
Evelyn leaves behind her children Deborah McCarthy of Canton, MA, Janine Carroll and husband Chris of Easton, MA, Michelle McCarthy of Canton, MA and Michael McCarthy and wife Pepper of North Myrtle Beach, SC; her grandchildren John, Christopher, Collin, Hannah, Natasha, Analiese, Courtney, James, Jackie and Ava and her great grandson Jasper. She also leaves behind her brothers Trevor Watt, Kelvin Watt, Michael Watt and sister Donna Gratton and their families; her sister-in-law Kathy Kirby, sister-in-law Linda Cleary and brother-in-law Joseph McCarthy and their families. All her nieces and nephews will always have a special place in her heart.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald McCarthy, her parents Robert and Elsie Watt, sisters Lillian Tucker, Winifred Pelling brother Frederick Watt, brother-in-law George Cleary, brother-in-law Paul Kirby and sister-in-law Joanie McCarthy. Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews here in the US and in England.
