Gerald Marvin “Jerry” Prince, 77, passed away at his home following a brief illness. Born on December 5, 1947, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Carl E. Prince, Sr. and Viola Galford Prince.
Jerry was a graduate of Chartiers Valley High School. Following high school, Jerry immediately joined the US Navy where he served in the Vietnam War receiving two Bronze Stars before his honorable discharge in 1968. Upon his return from Vietnam, Jerry moved to the Houston area of Texas where his brother was living to begin a career in new home sales. He remained in Texas until his parents needed additional care in Somerset, at which time he moved to care of them. After they passed, Jerry moved to North Myrtle Beach to be closer to his sister. In North Myrtle Beach, he volunteered with local veterans helping them work through PTSD as he suffered himself. His love of his country was never failing and helping others was another form of his great USA Patriotism.
Having grown up during the Rock and Roll Era of the late 60’s early 70’s, Jerry was nicknamed “Zipper” by his family and friends. He followed and managed many local bands in the Pittsburgh area and continued his love of Rock and Roll until his passing.
Surviving are his brothers, Carl E. Prince, Jr. (Patricia) and Donald Prince. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Houston National Cemetery.
