

Gerald “Jerry” William Swart, age 84, of Little River, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital. Born on March 28, 1940 in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Arthur William Swart and Nelda LeFevre Swart.
Survivors include his loving wife, Phyliss Swart; daughters, Elizabeth Lee, Kathryn Vasapoli; son, William Swart; grandchildren, Andrew Vasapoli, Jessica Vasapoli, Audrey Swart; brothers, Randy Swart (Barbara), John Swart; nephew, John Wiltsie. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with his sister, Linda Wiltsie.
A 1958 graduate of Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, Jerry furthered his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta where he obtained his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in the year 1962. He then went on to receive his Masters in Business Administration at Georgia State University. Jerry had quite a successful career working as an engineer with Scientific-Atlanta, a regional operations manager with Levitz Furniture, and as the Vice President of Human Resources with GTE Spacenet.
Jerry enjoyed golfing, sailing, distance running, and traveling. He also greatly enjoyed music, particularly bluegrass and Irish music, and made great bluegrass music for many years playing guitar. There were many wonderful live music sessions over the years with the Swart Family Band whose members included Phyliss, Barbara, and Randy. He was also an avid sports fan when it came to Atlanta Braves baseball and Georgia Tech basketball and football.
Jerry was a member of the Arlington Elks Lodge #2188 and president of the Washington, D.C. area Georgia Tech Alumni Club. His wonderful sense of humor was a defining characteristic along with his continual efforts to help others in his life. Jerry will be missed greatly and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Lee Funeral Home and Crematory of Little River is serving the family. A memorial service will be planned for a date in the future.
