

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Bonnie Brown Kanoy of North Myrtle Beach, SC; four children, David Hunter Kanoy and wife Christine of Wilmington, NC, Brian Christopher Kanoy and wife Megan of Olathe, KS, Meg Kanoy Carter and husband Eric of Calabash, NC and Kim Gunter McFarling of Loris, SC; five grandchildren, Brooke Nicole McFarling, Chase Emerson Kanoy, Owen David Kanoy and Knox Emerson Carter; and sister, Diana Kay Kanoy of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents Ethel Bolling Kanoy and Lewis Samuel Kanoy of Winston Salem, NC.
Jake attended Reynolds High School in Winston Salem, NC. After his sophomore year he went to Central America as a missionary. His family had friends in the mission field, and he worked and spent time with them. Jake graduated from NC State University School of Architecture in 1976. He had over a 40-year career as an architect and builder. Jake loved target shooting, especially with his friend Charlie Schuler, boating and dancing. Jake was a member of the North Strand Sail and Power Squadron and an officer for two years. When he and Bonnie moved to SC, they found a church home at Little River United Methodist Church.
All who knew him saw him as a humble, kind and generous man.
A celebration of life will be held on February 14th, 2026 at 11AM at Little River United Methodist Church in Little River, SC.
