Mark and I got to know each other at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in the early 1980's.  When I met Mark, I quickly learned to admire his jovial mood and constant sense of humor.  We became good friends and I had a chance to hang out with his family and friends in Largo.  After graduation, I was able to get Mark hired at Amerijet International in Fort Lauderdale where I was a company instructor.  Mark was a fantastic pilot, professional and determined to make the most of his craft.  Mark was hired at Usairways the year after I was hired at Piedmont.  I was so proud to see our professional career parallel each other.  I left the airline in 2005 and lost touch with my friend.  The news of his passing brings me regret, that we did not keep in contact more.  Mark Harper was a good person, man, professional and I am honored to have know him.  My condolences to his son, friends, and the family.  I will remember the life of Mark Harper with a smile on my face ;-)

I knew Jim back in Daytona Beach when we were young and starting our careers. We flew together on charters in the Navajo. I’m so sorry for your loss and you have the entire pilot community’s sympathies. Tailwinds my friend.

My condolences for you loss. I did not know James prior to the accident but as a fellow pilot I felt like I knew him. We at least shared the skies together! I pray for the family in this time of bereavement and  hope that the family maintains the good memories of James and his legacy!

I am an AA flight attendant that lives in the beach and have had the pleasure of meeting CA Harper on several occasions. I am very sorry for your loss. 

I was present to see Mr. Harper in his final moments. I consider this man a Hero because he let his bird down in the only open field around. I feel that he purposefully chose that landing site to ensure no one else would be injured. I pray peace over his family. His sacrifice blesses me because it helps me to keep things in perspective. In his death, he has impacted my life. This life is fleeting and precious. I never ever want to take it for granted and I never ever want to forget to  be present in each moment with my loved ones. When I think of Mr. Harper it reminds me to live life to the fullest and always let my light shine. May the peace of my Lord Jesus be with you during this difficult time! My heart breaks for your loss.
