

James E Tyson, age 83, of Little River, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Known to his friends and family as Jim, Jimmie, or T-bird, he was born on December 7, 1941, in Siler City, NC. Jim was the son of the late Wesley Evans Tyson and Edith Kennedy (Tyson) Smith.
A restauranteur for most of his life, he owned and operated three 220 Seafood Restaurant franchises in Charlotte and the surrounding area in the 1970s until moving to Little River in the early 80’s to open Mad Munchies. Since his high school days, Jim had always loved the beaches around North Myrtle and still preferred listening to Carolina beach music over any other music in his later years. Jim was an avid reader and still loved to shoot pool almost daily until his passing.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Childress (and husband, Tim) of Sanford, NC; granddaughter, Jessica Voytik of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Alex Voytik of Sanford, NC. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Manos.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Highway 90, Little River, SC 29566.
