John “Daniel” Johnson III, 34, left us unexpectedly on Friday, July 18, 2025. Born April 27, 1991, in Conway, South Carolina, Daniel was the son of John “Danny” Johnson, Jr. and Debra Lynn Willis. He was the grandson of John Daniel “JD” Johnson and the late Mary Faye Lewis Johnson and Adelle Johnson, as well as VJ and Wanda Willis.
Daniel grew up in Conway and never strayed far from the people and places he loved. He was the kind of person who filled up a room—not just with his voice or his laughter, but with a steady, genuine warmth that drew people in. Loud in all the right ways, Daniel didn’t hold back his affection or his opinions. He made fast friends wherever he went and was always quick to lend a hand, offer a joke, or give the shirt off his back.
His hands were rarely still. From an early age, Daniel was drawn to how things worked—how metal came together, how engines ran, how sound could fill a space when he played his guitar. He was a jack-of-all-trades with the mind of a tinkerer and the heart of a helper. He worked as a welder, spent time alongside his father at International Paper, and most recently found a home in HVAC with Smart Heating and Air, where he brought both skill and humor to every job. Daniel was blessed to be able to work alongside both of his grandfathers on small engines.
In recent years, Daniel discovered a deep interest in Civil War history and reenactment. He trained and certified in cannon operation and proudly took part in the reenactment at the Battle of Broxton Bridge—a day he talked about often and with pride.
More than anything, Daniel was a family man. A devoted father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew and friend. He treasured time spent with those he loved. Whether at a family gathering, around a bonfire, or on a porch swapping stories, Daniel showed up fully, with a big laugh and a bigger heart. He lived without pretense and gave of himself freely. His absence leaves a quiet space that will be hard to fill.
He is survived by his parents and grandparents; his son Zane, his brother, Jamey Johnson, and wife Kristen, and their sons, Judson and Noah; his sister, Kaitlyn Allen, and her son, Brantley; his aunts, Kim (Andy) Dusenbury, Katrena (Don) Smith and Vicki Clinton; his cousins Patrick (Brandy), Jonathan, Courtney, Jackson, Brock, Nicole and Heather (Colton); many extended family members, and many close friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Poplar Community Church, 5095 N Hwy 701, Conway, SC 29526, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.
