

John H. Sarles, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 8, 1936 to the late Albert H. Sarles and Edna A. Haviland Sarles in Valhalla, NY, he was one of 11 Children. Preceded in death by 9 siblings, his beloved wife of 65 years, Eileen J. Sarles, grandson, Gregory R. Sarles and his son, Jeffrey L. Sarles.
John was a machinist’s mate 3rd class in the United States Navy on an aircraft carrier named the USS Lake Champlain. He spoke of his love for the Mediterranean and all the beautiful ports he had the privilege to see and was so thankful for the opportunities he was given. Right after his discharge he returned home and started a job at Grand Union Distribution Center in Mt. Kisco, NY where he stayed with that company and the Teamsters Local 456 Union until his retirement. In 1959 he married his beloved wife Eileen and soon started their family.
John was known for his love of his family, always there to help anyone in a moments notice. He was a hard worker and when he had time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. After relocating to the Myrtle Beach area he continued his love for outdoors by enjoying walks on the beach with his family and had a knack for finding and collecting sharks teeth. He continued to work here and there in the hotel industry working at the Hampton in Broadway at the Beach and the Dayton House Hotel. He enjoyed talking with everyone that stayed there, he was a true people person that never met a stranger.
He is survived by his brother, Mr. Arthur Sarles; children, John H. Sarles, Jr. (Dianne), Douglas W. Sarles, Roger A. Sarles (Lori), Maryann Sarles (Ric); grandchildren, Tori Andrews (Omar) , Anthony Vanderpool, Joseph Sarles, Lindsay Nelson (Quinn), Roger Sarles (Lindsay), Brenton Sarles, Anna Sarles, Elizabeth Sarles, Jack Sarles, Sarah Johnson, Teagan Sarles, McKenna Sarles; great-grandchildren, Oliva Sarles, Sophia Andrews, Nate Andrews, Ashlynn Turner, Anthony Vanderpool, Brooklyn Sarles, Freya Nelson, Finley Nelson, Azalea Rivera-Johnson, Jasmine Vallario; great-great grandchildren, Mila Teachey; daughter-in-law, Dawn Sarles; along with countless nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on November 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Ballantyne area of South Charlotte, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of his late son, Jeffery L. Sarles.
