Lenny was born to Lincoln and Jean (Wright) Wood on June 1,1947. He leaves his wife of forty-eight years Patricia (O'Malley) Wood; his sister,Barbara Roberts (Jeanne-Pierre); his brother Ronald Wood (Andrea); his brother-in-law Kevin O'Malley (Mary); his nieces: Lori Roberts and Annie and Eileen O'Malley and his nephews: Jeanne-Pierre Roberts,Jr., Peter Trubble Morse, and Brian Wood. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Wood and nephews Dana Roberts and Patrick O'Malley.
Upon Lenny's father's death when he was just eleven years old, Lenny developed a strong work ethic first delivering newspapers and then working at the local supermarket, Tom's Food World where he first developed an interest in retail. After graduation from Ayer High School, Lenny attended Bentley College and then worked briefly for the IRS. His next job was with Suburban News(distributor for the Boston Globe), followed by jobs managing convenience stores in Townsend and Ayer, MA. He then purchased and ran his own convenience store (Li'l Peach/Tedschi's) in Leominster. MA for close to thirty years.
Lenny was a quiet, gentleman with a great smile. He had a special knack with numbers and was like a human calculator. He could also name the singer of any song from the sixties in seconds. He had a great passion for sports and a competitive nature. He belonged to both ten pin and candlepin bowling leagues and played in several softball leagues. His interest in horse racing led him to become the owner of standardbred horses who raced at New England tracks including Rockingham, Foxboro, and Hinsdale. He supported Boston teams including the Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox, and Celtics and was fortunate to have season tickets during the Larry Bird years.
Lenny's love of golf led Lenny and Pat to relocate to South Carolina six years ago. They joined Diamondback Golf Club where they made wonderful friends who were so supportive
during his illness. He also enjoyed playing in the Grand Strand Senior League. Lenny loved traveling and found much pleasure in spending time with nieces and nephews, especially decorating the eighteen foot Christmas tree in their log home in Shirley, and vacations in Ireland and Switzerland. One niece referred to him as "fununcle" (the fun uncle).
Following his diagnosis, Lenny and Pat fulfilled his bucket list making final trips to Florida, Massachusetts, and Ireland to visit family and friends. His last trip was to Pittsburgh to watch his two favorite teams the Red Sox and Pirates play each other. When asked why he developed a love for the Pirates when he was young he said it was because they beat the Yankees.
There will be a celebration of Lenny's life at Lee Funeral Home, Little River, SC on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Visitation will be at 3pm with a service at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel Street, Suite 006, Newton, MA 02458.
