Maureen Monica Pitt

Maureen was born to parents Daniel and Mary Josephine (O’Brien) McCartney, of Flushing, NY. Maureen graduated St. Joseph’s Hill Academy in Staten Island, NY in 1965 and attended Wood Secretarial School.

She married Walter Francis Pitt in Spring Valley, NY in May of 1966. Maureen and Walter raised two daughters Kelly Ann Pitt and Kendra Jeanne Pitt in Parksville, NY from 1966 through 1990. The couple later relocated to South Carolina.

Maureen always welcomed friends and family into her home, offering sage advice, and wonderfully salty stories. She loved a good game of cards, old black and white movies, art and quilting. Maureen prepared her family well for whatever came their way in life. Maureen and her funny, joyous, and resilient approach to life will be greatly missed.

Maureen is survived by her daughter Kelly (Pitt) Kabiri, grandchildren Bryn Kabiri and Andrew Kabiri, of Arlington, VA; Lindsay Edwards, of Oakley, CA, and Garrett Pitt, of Longs, SC. Maureen is also survived by her sister Sheila Tammaro (Joe), of Billerica, MA; sisters-in-law Gloria Smith (Bob) and Kathy Steele, both of Livingston Manor, NY, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Maureen was predeceased by her daughter Kendra Pitt, in 2020.

Maureen passed away four days before the death on October 5, 2023 of her husband, Walt Pitt.

A public memorial will be held in Liberty, NY in the future.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to any charity supporting cancer research and support.
