Mother and I were so shocked and saddened when Joyle told me of Monty's passing. Please know we have cried with you as you have gone through this. Mother said it just breaks her heart. Gail she wanted to see you so bad, but we just couldn't make the trip. You are in our many thoughts and prayers. If you talk to mother please know she is getting things confused and she tells me things I know didn't happen or twist them around. She knows her memory is failing, she told me today she is worried how she will be in another year. Know she loves you very much, and misses you. All our love.

Gail,
You've been on my mind since I heard the sad news. Bettye and I are so sorry for your loss. I liked Monty a lot. Fellow drummers and all. He was so much fun to hang around with and always made me feel good. I regret very much that I didn't find time to make contact. I've gone by your house a few times over the summer but it never looked like anyone was home. I didn't know you guys had moved to the beach. I hope he got to spend some good days in the sand.
If I can do anything for you please let me know.

Dear Gail,
The moments we shared with you and Monty have become treasured memories. I am grateful more than words can say for the opportunities to share conversations with Monty about music. I always walked away feeling good and often learning something new. The opportunity to be able to hear him play the drums in an environment that he obviously loved was so special and unforgettable. Jerry and I send our love and support to you. Not just today but in all the days ahead.
