Throughout his life, Big Pete was known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Pete lived a full and rich life, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. He was a devoted husband to Janice Sawyer Misiaszek for 32 years. Pete was a cherished father to his five (5) children from his first marriage with Lillian: Susan (Tom) Garside, Robin (Chuck) Sargent, Jill (Robby) Gault, Judy (Bill) Langfitt, and Peter Jr (Sue) Misiaszek as well as a dedicated stepfather to Jeff (Tammy) Pearce. He was a proud grandfather to fourteen (14) beautiful grandchildren and nine (9) great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Pauline Elliott, Jean Meyers and one brother, David Misiaszek. His warmth and guidance touched the lives of all who knew him.
Professionally, Pete enjoyed a successful career in the family business Derry Paving & Construction and Birchwood Ski Area in NH. He then went on to start Asphalt Pavement Maintenance in South Carolina. He approached his work with integrity and a strong work ethic, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
In his “retirement years” you could find Pete finely manicuring the fairways at TideWater Country Club. His hobbies included working in the yard, cleaning the pool, grilling out, making meal requests (Janice is a great cook!) and playing Cribbage daily “skunking” Janice! He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events near and far. He was an avid sports enthusiast who never wavered from his “hometown” New England favorites….except for that “one” time with the Atlanta Braves. Most recently he was a Wordle master and enjoyed sitting on his porch reading novels. Pete’s presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
The family will greet friends from 11:00 until 12:30 on Monday, February 19th, 2024 at Lee Funeral Home, located at 11840 SC-90, Little River, SC 29566 followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
