After graduating from Central Catholic High School in Allentown, she received her BA and Masters from Marywood University in Scranton PA. Roberta taught 43 years in PA, Indiana, New Jersey, and South Carolina. Her last 21 years in education were spent at Conway Middle and North Myrtle Beach Middle Schools. Teaching mostly seventh grade math, Roberta touched the many youngsters she taught with her energy and compassion. She had a great outlook on life and was rarely caught without a smile and a wonderful laugh.
In 2006, she married Mike Motter and inherited a stepson, Andy, and four young grandchildren (Hannah, Addison, Erin, and Morgan), which she loved as dearly as they loved her. She added two great grandchildren as time passed on (Kingsley and Kaia). “Mamaw” was very popular with the grandchildren giving them great advice on life and making them laugh. Roberta and Mike were soul mates and had a meaningful, fun filled marriage. It didn’t take a trip for them to have fun. They also had their serious times when they discussed life and death. She also had a “grand” stepdaughter Barb, with whom she kept up with, mostly weekly. Several of her “teacher buddies” were Brenda, Ann, and Betty, with whom she kept in contact after retirement. Other friends in her life in Pennsylvania were Marie and Freddie, Ann Marie and Eddie, and Edward. Her father and mother, Robert and Tess Taniser and a husband, Merritt Lamson Jr., predeceased Roberta.
As a lifelong Catholic, she had a strong faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. This faith gave her the strength to weather the last years of her life as her health started failing.
The family would like to thank Crescent Hospice (Stacey & Jan) and Home Instead for providing caregivers that were caring, courteous, and “just like family” during the end of her illness.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach at 11:00 AM on April 23, 2022. In keeping with Roberta’s eye on education contributions to Saint Andrews School, 3601 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 in lieu of flowers please.
