When in his element, he surrounded himself with people of all ages and types. He loved them, and they loved him. While working at Westpoint Stevens, he became known by one friend as a peacemaker. He really detested arguments and conflicts of any kind; he spoke quietly and with wisdom and helped end problems wherever he could. His friends and those who worked with and for him respected his views and opinions. Rarely, if ever, did anyone have a bad thing to say about him.
He attended Scotland High School where he played football and earned membership in the school’s Beta Club. While working at Westpoint Stevens, Ron attended Gardner Webb to earn his bachelor's degree, and, as in high school, Ron graduated with honors.
Later, Ron served as a deacon at Skyway Baptist Church where again he smoothed the way for those looking for peace in their lives.
Ron also served in the Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa. He continued to have contact with some of those friends to the present time. Realizing the importance of the military’s influence on him, Ron thought all young people should belong to the armed forces for the discipline it taught and the opportunities it could give to young people to see the world and learn about people like and unlike himself.
For pleasure, Ron loved meeting friends for drinks, playing trivia, and going out for a round of golf. At home he liked to work crossword puzzles and watch Mash, Andy Griffith, NCIS, and Columbo.
He is survived by friends and family; you are probably one of them. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favorite charity. If you are helping those in need, you will make Ron proud.
Currently there is no plan for a Celebration of Life gathering. If this changes, we will let you know.
If you miss him, play his favorite song by the Eagles: Desperado, or Party in the USA, Overtime’s theme song.
He was one of a kind, and he loved you all.
