It is with a heavy heart, yet a spirit filled with gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Sophia Clauson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully at her home on May 15, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born on April 11, 1933, in the close-knit community of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Sophia was the cherished daughter of Felix and Eva Radkovich. She was the youngest sister in a large and loving family, predeceased by her dear parents, her brothers John and Peter, and her sisters Helen, Margaret, Olga, and Pauline. Her life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family, a legacy she continued in her own home.
Sophia was a proud graduate of Plains High School, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by resilience and integrity. In 1964, she began a fulfilling and industrious career at Merck Sharp & Dohme, dedicating over 30 years to the company. Starting on the production line as a labeler, Sophia's ambition and diligence saw her rise to the position of Clinical Data Clerk in research, a role she embraced until her retirement in 1998.
In 1986, Sophia found her soulmate in William Clauson. Their marriage was a harmonious blend of love, laughter, and shared dreams that spanned 34 blissful years. Together, they created a sanctuary of happiness, welcoming friends and family into a home that mirrored Sophia's immaculate standards and warm hospitality.
Sophia's greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her son, Elmer Stephens and his wife Kathie, her daughter Becki Farina and her husband Rich, and her treasured grandchildren: Nicole, Ashley, Jennelle, Lindsey, Brooke, Richard, Douglas, Morgan, and Emma. Her legacy continues to blossom through her numerous great-grandchildren, along with Jimmy the fiance of Joann, each carrying a piece of her heart forward into the future.
Those who knew Sophia will remember her for her kindness, unyielding generosity, and a strength of character that inspired all around her. She was a woman of grit, never afraid to speak her mind, yet always doing so with grace and respect. Her passion for life was evident in her love of dining with friends, the thrill of finding a good sale, and, most importantly, the time she spent with her cherished family.
In her final year, Sophia was cared for by a dedicated team of caregivers and nurses, to whom the family extends their deepest gratitude. It was Sophia's wish that no formal service be held, and her family respects her wishes. Sophia Clauson's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, loyalty, and laughter. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones in the embrace of eternity.
