
William Worth “Butch” Johnson, Jr., 68, died Monday, May 9, 2016 as the result of an auto accident.
Born on July 30, 1947 in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late William Worth and Lucy Matthews Johnson.
He was a graduate of Sanford Central High School in Sanford, NC and a former Police Officer with the Sanford Police Department. He retired as a Magistrate with the State of North Carolina and was currently employed with James C. Greene Insurance Adjusters for the past 43 years.
Butch is survived by his wife Charlene Platt Johnson; daughter, Renée D. Thomas and her husband Mack “Jamie” Thomas of Sanford, NC; sister, Janet J. Carter (Charles) of Aberdeen, NC; stepdaughter, Vonne Gengo; grandchildren, Kaitlyn N. Thomas and William Seth Thomas of Sanford, NC; step-grandchildren, Stephen and Ryan Gengo and Hunter Baiden.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, May 12 at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
