Armon Vincent Magliaro, "Monty", was born at home in South Orange, NJ, to Sam and Rose Magliaro. He was a choir boy at his grammar school, Our Lady of Sorrows, and later graduated from Columbia High School, in Maplewood, NJ. He had a chance meeting with his future bride, Rosemary Jelens, through a friendship between his sister, Josephine, and Rosemary's aunt Faye, when Rosemary was only 9 years old. After completing his service in the US Marines (1948), and Marine Reserves (1950), he worked at Ft. Belvoir, VA, before returning to South Orange, where he began courting her.
After he completed his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Newark College of Engineering, Monty and Rosemary were wed at Sacred Heart Cathedral, in Newark, NJ, on Nov 3, 1956, with Monty's brother, Albert, serving as Best Man, and Rosemary's cousin, Teresa, as Maid of Honor. Three children followed: Armon (1957), Max (1962), and Rosemary (1965). In 1966, they settled into a beautiful new home in Livingston. Monty designed the home, and supervised and personally worked on its construction.
Monty's career as a civil engineer continued at the Essex County Park Commission and later, at the Morris County Dept. of Parks and Recreation, where he rose to the position of Chief Engineer, designing and directing the construction and renovation of numerous public park and recreation facilities including the Turtle Back Zoo and the Mennen Sports Arena.
Monty loved working in his garden, having big parties, doing repairs on his home and cars, and feeding and watching wildlife in his back yard. But above all else, he was a wonderful husband and father who gave his time, attention and love to his family every day of his life.
Monty and Rosemary were married for 68 years, and will always be the love of each others' lives. Monty was happiest when his friends and family were happy, and we were all happy and lucky to have him.
A visitation for Monty was held Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ 07039.
