In Carol’s own words…..” I was born in 1920, the daughter of Gottlieb and Sophia Mitschele Ochs and lived on their farm in West Orange until I married C. Harry Huck in 1943 when we moved to Livingston. I was a nurse’s aide at West Essex General Hospital in Livingston.
A life-long member of the St. Cloud Presbyterian Church, I was an Elder and Deaconess as well as holding many offices in its Women’s Association; for many years I headed the “The Young at Hearts “ group of St. Cloud Presbyterian Church providing montly entertainment for the senior citizens. A long time member of the Livingston Historical Society, I served as trustee, hospitality chairman and docent. In 1998 I was thankful to receive the Women of Achievement Award and the Citizen of Achievement Award in 2001.
I became a Listener with the “Listen to the Children” program when it came to Livingston.
Fond of all my memories of West Orange and Livingston, I often shared my memories in “Down Memory Lane” in the West Essex Tribune and various meetings of local organizations.
Predeceased by my beloved husband C. Harry , my siblings Helen Ochs Smith, Janet Ochs Fenske, Rudolph and Harold Ochs, I am survived by my many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston Historical Society, 204 Hillside Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039.
