Charles was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Marion. He is survived by his loving daughter, Deborah (Charles) and his loving son, Gregory (the late Patricia) Torre. Cherished grandfather of Danielle Torre and Alexandra Celona. Great grandfather of Stanton.
Charles was born in Newark, NJ in 1921. He served his country proudly at home and overseas in the Army during WWII. He returned home from France in late 1945 and went to work with his father in the family butcher shop, known as Joe Torre & Son’s Butcher Shop. In 1948, he married the woman with the most beautiful eyes, as he stated in the newspaper. Charles sold his butcher business and worked as a meat manager for Shop Rite of Essex Green in West Orange and various other locations. He later retired and moved to Manahawkin where he and his wife, Marion, lived for over 30 years. He continued to work for Super Fresh and then again for Shop Rite, and finally, when in his late 80’s, he retired. He was very much a quiet man with very little emotion or expression, but he loved being a butcher and teaching the new kids all the tricks of the trade. He had little interest in material things. Charles was a great provider, giving his wife and children all he could and always wanting better for his family than what he had; it was his way of life. He always preached, “if you have your health, then you have everything, and nothing else matters.” God bless you, Dad, for all that you have taught us. We love you and will miss you very much. Now you are at rest with mom and all the angels.
