The Honorable Edward F. Neagle Jr., dear husband of the late Mary “Jane” Neagle, and father of four, entered into eternal happiness peacefully at home on Good Friday, April 19, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
The “Judge” was born in Orange, New Jersey on March 20, 1922, graduated from Orange High School, and the University of Notre Dame, magna cum laude, class of 1942-43. Immediately after college, Judge served in the Navy on “tin can” destroyers in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. During his military service, Judge was initiated into the “Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep.” After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he graduated from Rutgers Law School in 1948 and, in 1950, married Mary “Jane” Brennan, with whom he remained blissfully wedded for 65 years until Jane’s passing in 2016.
Judge practiced law for twenty-seven years, before being sworn in as Superior Court Judge in 1976. He was a trustee for the Essex County Bar Association, a long-standing member of the VFW, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Notre Alumni Association of New Jersey, St. Patrick’s Guard of Honor, “Irishman of the Year” by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in 1987, master of the America Inns of Court, a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years becoming a fourth-degree member (the highest degree of the Knights of Columbus offered only to those Knights who have shown themselves to be especially solicitous of the welfare of their Church, their families, their community and their nation).
Judge is survived by three sons and one daughter: Kevin (Angela) of Lausanne, Switzerland, Thomas (Karen Lorne) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Edward III of the home, and Maureen (Richard) O'Connell of Landing, N.J. Also surviving the Judge are five grandchildren: Thomas and Casey O'Connell; and Kaitlin (Jarrid) Reagle, Mary (Jay) Goss and Sean (Susi) Neagle. The Judge was a wonderful husband, father, and friend.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. on April 23rd, 2019, from 3 until 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Raphael's Church, 346 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, on April 24th, 2019, at 10 a.m., followed by the entombment service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ, where he will join his dear wife.
