

Lillian grew up spending time pumping the bellows in her grandfather’s blacksmith shop, using compressed air to blow the dust out of brake drums in her father’s auto repair garage, riding her bicycle, playing baseball, or reading a book under a tree in the summer. She was a lifelong dog lover, always taking comfort from their company.
Lillian received a Bachelor’s degree from New Jersey College For Women, now Douglass College. Graduate studies were done at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she received her M.A. degree and a Professional Diploma in Supervision of High School and College Mathematics. She also attended many National Science Foundation Institutions in the 1960s. She taught mathematics and Science in Bergenfield, NJ for two years. The rest of her 34 year career was teaching mathematics at West Orange High School. She was chairman of the Mathematics Department for ten years. Lillian was a life member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, New Jersey Education Association, New Jersey Retired Teachers, and Essex County Retired Teachers. She was also her class representative on the Douglass Alumnae Association.
Lillian enjoyed traveling, antique automobiles, and church work. She was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) and the NJ Region AACA for 67 years, receiving her 50 year AACA pin in 2008. Lillian especially enjoyed the NJ Region AACA activities and tours, first with her parents, then her husband Al, and more recently with her nephew Craig and his wife Yvonne.
She was always involved in church activities, including singing in the Choir for 60 years, teaching Sunday School, as a Church Trustee, and a Church Elder. She was also Clerk of the Session for 17 years at the Pleasantdale Presbyterian Church, and served faithfully in the Newark Presbytery. Lillian was privileged to be a Commissioner to the Synod of NJ, twice, and the Synod of the Northeast once. In 2000 she was a Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Lillian was also a 60 year member in the Order of the Eastern Star, Lincoln Chapter No. 95.
Lillian was pre-deceased by her parents William L and Lina Kunz, husband Alfred J Anderson, brother and sister in law William A and Frances Kunz, step daughter Mildred Megletti, granddaughter Christine Thacker, and nephew Bruce Kunz. She is survived by her sister in law Doris Weissflog, step daughter Corrine Dahms, granddaughters Kim Menzak, Linda Barfield, and Nancy John, and nephews Lawrence Kunz and Craig Kunz, and other family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a one-hour Visitation on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 10:00am – 11:00am at the Presbyterian Church of Livingston, 271 W Northfield Rd., Livingston, NJ 07039, with a service to follow. The Committal Service will take place at 12:30pm at Restland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Presbyterian Church of Livingston NJ (Organ Maintenance Fund), or the Alumni Association of Douglass College.
