Robert Charles Gray, 88, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Born in Mt. Holly, NJ to Charles Burtis and Charlotte Morris Gray, Bob graduated from Pemberton High School in 1950, after attending a one room school house in Chatsworth until his HS junior year. He served in the Air Force 1951-1955, during the Korean Conflict, doing ground radio repair. Following his military service, Bob earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education and a master’s degree in Education from Montclair State College. He was a high school educator for over 30 years in Passaic and Livingston, NJ, and was also an adjunct professor at Montclair State. Like battery contacts and power cords, Bob’s everyday efforts were to help people learn, connect and share the power.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Lois B. Gray. He is survived by his brother Wayne Gray, and four children: Kathy Gray, Meggin and Jon Vitarius, Rob and Lorrie Gray, and Chris and Susan Gray. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17th from 5-7pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 18th at 10am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 315 Main St., West Orange, NJ. (On the same date and in the same church as Bob and Lois were married in!) The internment of Bob’s ashes will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert Gray’s name may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church or to the Cedar Crest Scholarship Fund.
