Robert Rizzo “Bob”, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2022. He resided at Brightview Assisted Living in Randolph for the past 3 years. Previously, he was a resident of West Orange for 57 years. He can now reunite with his wife of 64 years, Thersea Corby Rizzo, who predeceased him in 2018. They had two children, Lynn Rizzo-Morena of Rockaway Borough and the late Jim Rizzo of Denville, as well as “Lucky” the cat. He also leaves his daughter-in-law Carole and her husband Chuck Alchermes of Denville.
Bob grew up in Orange, NJ attending Orange High, Class of 1950. He loved playing trombone in the band and dancing jitterbug in the cafeteria. He went on to join the Army which was an important part of his life. He trained in signal school at Camp Gordon, Georgia and then posted at Fort Monmouth, NJ. He then served in the National Guard for 8 years.
Bob started his career as an electrical draftsman in NYC. He went on to Monroe Calculating for many years. Various other companies in electronics employed him before he started his own business. He successfully represented electronic manufacturers and coordinating printed circuit board assembly. He retired in 1996.
Bob’s favorite hobby from a very young age was fishing. It didn’t matter if it was fresh water or salt water, it was all good. Culver Lake was always a favorite spot, as were streams in the Poconos, where he enjoyed their country home get-a-way. He loved fishing Barnegat Bay in his boat with Dominick. He also had a home built there in High Bar Harbour, LBI. His brother, Arthur (deceased) and son Jim (deceased) were often his other fishing partners. Bob always joked, “Bury me with my fishing pole” (and we are!). Other hobbies included coin collecting, metal locating, and learning piano.
Bob also leaves his brother, Alfred and his wife Jene, sister-in-law Barbara, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and neighbors.
Viewing will be held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston on Thursday, January 27 from 5-8 PM. Funeral service will be held at 11AM at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel by Father Miguel of Our Lady of the Valley, Orange, NJ.
