Susan was a resident of Martinsville for 25 years, having previously resided for many years with her family in Bloomfield. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Ethel and Kenneth Boyd, and her brother Robert L. Boyd. Susan is survived by her loving family— her Aunt Linda Sayer, her first cousins Stacey and her husband Jeff Kuduk and Jon Sayer and his wife Margaux, as well as many other family members and good friends.
Susan had a brilliant mind, receiving a full academic scholarship to every school she attended. She graduated magna cum laude from the College of St. Elizabeth with a B.A. in Mathematics. She then went on to receive an M.A in Mathematics from Fordham University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences under a National Science Foundation Fellowship. She also earned an Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) from NYU in Finance and Statistics. She held the Chartered Financial Analyst (CLU) designation and was also a Fellow, Life Management Institute.
Susan spent most of her career in the investment business, first at Prudential Financial where she held varying responsibilities including overseeing investment operations, technology, finance, compliance, human resources and marketing. She then joined Seabridge Advisors where she worked for over 20 years, culminating in the role of Chief Operations Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and member of the Investment Committee.
A woman of many talents, her successful professional career was eclipsed by her personal commitments and accomplishments. She was totally devoted to her family and friends. She was the go-to person for any family or friend issues that arose and she always came through in a positive, caring way. She was thoughtful beyond measure, always looking for ways to make someone else’s life better. And it wasn’t just people she helped. She loved animals and took in strays—both cats and dogs—all her life. Her last dog, Sadie, was the love of her life, no matter how many times she made Susan get up and let her out, then get up and let her in, over and over and over again. They were true, loving companions to each other.
Susan also enjoyed several hobbies. Susan was an artist, painting watercolors that adorn so many of her family’s and friends’ homes. She also loved gardening, decorating both the inside and outside of her home with myriad plantings. And she enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends.
Susan’s combination of brilliance, compassion, thoughtfulness and generosity were unique. The world is so much poorer without her. She will be sorely missed.
