Suzan S. Abadir, 80, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 24, 2026, exactly three years after her beloved husband, Sami A. M. Abadir was called home. Born in Minya, Egypt, and one of three children, Suzan attended medical school in Egypt before marrying the love of her life, Sami, in August of 1967. They soon had their son, Michael, and then immigrated to England in 1969. They arrived in New Jersey in 1970, and Suzan continued her training in pediatrics at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, NJ, obtaining her medical license in New Jersey in 1975.
After Suzan and Sami welcomed their daughter, Janet, Suzan decided to stay home with the children as a full-time mother. Her sacrifice for her family will forever be admired and appreciated. God graciously blessed the family with one more son, Joseph, who was born eight years later.
Suzan and Sami were longtime residents of New Providence, New Jersey, and also attended Mountain Ridge Bible Chapel in Berkeley Heights each week. Both of them regularly read their Bibles and prayed for each of their children and grandchildren, as well as for their beloved friends and family members.
Suzan understood the power of prayer. She saw God’s miraculous blessings on her life in giving her a faithful and loving husband for 56 years. When Sami was taken home to be with the Lord, Suzan relied on God for her strength and joy. She became a resident of the Mira Vie Assisted Living in Fanwood, NJ, and took advantage of every social event and function. She enjoyed painting, crafting, and bingo, and good meals with her friends. When her health became more fragile, she transferred to Spring Grove Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in New Providence, and made many wonderful friends there in her last few months of life.
Suzan will be remembered for her love and devotion and self-sacrifice, and the best baklava in the world. She enjoyed life to the full, especially traveling, cruise ships, shopping, cooking, hosting, and playing games. Her outward beauty did not fade as she aged, but she actually became more beautiful in her faith and love for God. She rededicated her life to Jesus Christ just two weeks before she passed away.
These verses were the last words she heard before she went to be with Jesus: “Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.” (Psalm 27:13-14)
Suzan is predeceased by her parents, Shoukri and Lily Boulos, and by her loving husband, Sami Abadir. Suzan is survived by her three children and loving family – her son, Michael Abadir with his wife, Juliette, and their children Justin, Grace, Claire, and Brooke; her daughter, Janet Abadir, with her husband Daniel Regehr, and their children Jonathan, Joel, and Joshua; and her son, Joseph Abadir. She is also survived by her siblings – her sister Sonia Fanous and her husband Jimmy Fanous, and her brother Magued Boulos with his wife Deborah Boulos. Her loving nephews and nieces include John Fanous with his wife Beckie and children Nathan, Eli, and Alyssa; Christy Murphy with her husband Jeremy Murphy; David Fanous with his wife Alexis and their children Micah and Emma; Jon Boulos with his wife Rachel; Nancy Wendlandt, as well as many other friends who will dearly miss her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6 from 9-10 AM at Mountain Ridge Bible Chapel, Berkeley Heights, NJ. The services will conclude with a Celebration of Life at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ.
