Andrew Andy Gerard Johnson

Andrew Andy Johnson passed away October 27, 2017 at his home in Berthoud. He was 80 years old.Andy was born on February 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to Hubert and Mary (Cassidy) Johnson. He enlisted in the Navy and served as a Radioman at McGuire Air Force Base in Trenton, NJ before being honorably discharged.On October 18, 1958 he married Carol Durbin in Browns Mills, NJ. Together they moved from New Jersey to Denver and on to Arvada, before settling in Mead for the last 50 years.Andy began his working career with Martin Marietta for about 7 years before joining IBM as a manufacturing engineer where he remained until his retirement in 1993. During his retirement, Andy continued to stay busy as an insurance adjuster for a time, and working with Imagine! in Boulder County for 10 years.Andy was a man of faith. He enjoyed giving back to the community by overseeing the Mead Youth Sports Association 4-star baseball program and serving as a volunteer fireman in Mead.In his free time he enjoyed rebuilding and tinkering with cars; his current project being the restoration of his '67 Buick Electra. He was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan. Andy loved his family and valued these relationships above all else.Andy was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ryan in 1984, his grandson Matthew in 1993 and his son-in-law Ron in 2014.He is survived by his wife Carol; his son Tim Johnson; his daughters Alice (Greg) Wellems and Andrea Johnson-Navarro; his grandchildren Ryan Nicole and Mary Elizabeth Wellems, Andrew (Jenn) Johnson, Austin Navarro and Bradley (Allic) Johnson; four great-granddaughters and his brothers Neal and Jerry Johnson.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday November 6, 2017 with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service, all at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the OUR Center or Meals on Wheels. A private family burial will take place at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
