Audrey Elsie Angello-Larson died peacefully at Life Care Center of Longmont on June 26, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. With the help of TRU Hospice, she died peacefully and pain-free. Our beloved Audrey was born in London, England in 1930 to Elsie Stickley and survived the blitz during World War II. She came to America when she was 16 and married Charles Morrison in 1952 and started her family. She had two children, Gary and Cindy.
After divorcing Charles, she moved from Denver to Colorado Springs, CO and began a career in modeling and fashion. Audrey worked for Neusteters, an upscale department store, where she was store model and fashion coordinator, a job she loved and one that often put her in the spotlight. She became “Miss Audrey” and was recognized wherever she went in the Colorado Springs area. She met Antonio Angello and was married in 1962. She later divorced Antonio and married Jon Larson in 1986, after moving to Longmont, CO in 1975 to be with Jon, now a retired teacher from the St. Vrain Valley School District. They have no children. She worked at the Boulder, CO Neusteters store until it closed in the 1980s.
One of Audrey’s loves was pets, especially little fluffy white dogs, and she eventually left retail and began her own pet sitting business. She had the pleasure of sitting a variety of dogs, both big and small, as well as cats and even an iguana, which she had to feed live crickets, which she hated doing. She became devoted to the Longmont Humane Society and worked tirelessly to raise money for its annual pet walk. She even placed first in raised donations and won prizes and weekend trips for her efforts.
Audrey and Jon loved to travel and they spent their spring breaks in Arizona, Mexico, Kansas City and California. During the longer summer vacations, they traveled to England, Scotland, France, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Her first trip to Australia was to see her sister, Peggy, and her family, who Audrey had not seen in 30 years. Their last trip was to Hawaii to see her niece, Jean, and her husband David.
In addition to traveling, Audrey enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, art, and entertaining. Our annual Christmas/birthday party with close friends was the highlight of the year for her. She was a huge Broncos fan even though she really did not understand the game.
Audrey is survived by her husband Jon Larson of Longmont, her two children Cindy Rogers (Roy) and Garry Morrison of Kansas City, two granddaughters, Kristin and Melanie, four great-grandchildren, a niece, two nephews, two grand-nephews, and a great-grandniece, and her beloved Molly and Daisy. In addition, she was fortunate enough to have many close friends and we thank them for their support and friendship during the difficult years Audrey struggled with Parkinson’s. Their recent support is also greatly appreciated.
Audrey will be remembered for her sense of style and looking “perfect” for every occasion, even though she sometimes over did it, life wearing wedges to hike.
Jon would also like to thank the entire staff at Life Care Center of Longmont for its love and expert medical care. I will not list all of you but you know who you are. Also, TRU Hospice and its staff is greatly appreciated.
Donations may be made to the Longmont Humane Society and/or TRU Hospice in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St. Longmont, CO.
