Beth Colleen Hardy, 87, of Longmont, ended her earthly race on June 16, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living Center. She was born on September 26, 1928 in Howard, Kansas to Harriet (Marrs) and Walter Glen Topliff. On April 3, 1948 she married Robert Hardy in Raton, New Mexico. To this union were born Lynn (Steve) Burkum of Stockton, CA, Lon (Cindy) Hardy of Centralia, MO, Lane (Monika) Hardy of Loveland, CO and Lance (Liz) Hardy of Evans, CO. This union lasted until her husband’s death in 1973.
In 1956 the family moved to Longmont and shortly thereafter moved into the house where Beth resided for the next 60 years.
Her professional career included more than 30 years as the Fiscal Officer for the Longmont Head Start program as well as a number of years as the bookkeeper at Bassett Carpets. Socially, she was an avid bridge player and in earlier years was a participant/actress with Potpourri Players at the Dickens Theater as well as a member of the Newcomers Club. In later years, she took up the art of quilt making, creating several beautiful pieces to pass on to future generations. She became enthusiastically involved in the water aerobics programs at the hospital pool. She also served several years as a volunteer at Longmont United Hospital. Throughout her life she loved the mountains and enjoyed many years of camping and hiking in the Rockies.
Beth lived an active Christian life, serving in many capacities (youth leader, Sunday school teacher, visitor to shut-ins with homemade pies, and general servant) at First Christian Church. Especially dear to her was the Bible Study hosted in her home for many years. For the past 25 years Beth was a member of Valley Christian Church in Loveland, Colorado. One of her greatest joys was seeing all of her children serving in ministry.
Surviving are her children, 9 grandchildren: Andrew (Patience) Burkum, Sarah (Jason) Edwards, Rebecca Beth (Michael) Solari, Robert (Jennifer) Hardy, Amber (Danny) Apple, Samuel Hardy, Hannah Hardy, Brianna Hardy and Caleb Hardy, 12 great grandchildren and her sister Glenna Fogo of Esbon, Kansas.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on July 18th at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont.
Memorial contributions, in Beth’s memory, are requested to the Valley Christian Church, 2328 S. Douglas Avenue, Loveland, CO. 80537.
