The family moved to Steelville, Missouri in 1940. Betty started the first grade in Steelville's new school and continued attending the same facility until she completed her high school education. She made many friendships during this time which have endured throughout the years.
Betty's romance with William Sease began when he returned to Steelville to complete his high school education after being discharged from the US Navy. They were married in 1953. Betty helped Bill further his education to receive a PhD from the University of Missouri at Columbia. They had two children. Betty and Bill divorced in 1971. In 1975 Betty met Ted Krahling at a mutual friend's home and were married three weeks later. The marriage lasted 48 years.
Betty worked for the City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department as Senior Citizens Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor while attending the University of Colorado. In 1975, she received a B.S. in Community Recreation with an emphasis in Program Planning and Management. When her new husband accepted a staff position at Arizona State University, she and her children accompanied him. While living in Tempe, Betty accepted the job of Director of the Sirrine Senior Services Center Foundation for Senior Adult Living in Mesa. It soon became apparent that Arizona was not a good choice for them to live primarily because of the summer heat. The family returned to Boulder, and Betty accepted a position with the YMCA where she was responsible for youth employment and later became Senior Director for Community Services. After twelve years she resigned and accepted a position with the City of Boulder where she was Coordinator of Program Development and Volunteers for fourteen years until she was forced to retire due to a severe stoke. Although she was unable to return to work, Betty made a miraculous recovery and had many more happy years.
Betty and Ted have enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family. She greatly enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed board games -- particularly Scrabble. For approximately ten years Betty took water color classes and enjoyed the interaction with the class. Each painting was a unique challenge which she cherished. Her family and friends were very supportive. Ted and her children always looked forward to seeing the most recently completed painting. Unfortunately, due to many years of poor health, activities once enjoyed were greatly restricted later in life.
Betty will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Neville Smith, Rosalee Midyett and Barbara Gilliam, her brother Tom Worley and step child Diana Parris. She is survived by her husband, her two children, Cynthia and Jeffrey Sease, her stepson, Steward Scott Krahling, her grandchildren, Lena Romeo, Amelia Sease, Margot Sease, Isabelle Sease and her great grandson, Dawson Romeo.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 10 at 2:00 pm at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, and a reception will follow.
