Betty was born on April 29, 1931 in Charlotte, NC to James and Edna Philemon. She grew up in Charlotte in a busy family of 5 and often spoke of a pet duck that she loved and once put in her baby sister's crib. In her youth she loved going to the movie theatre and the pool and often shared about how she loved to see her community come together. She graduated from Central High School in 1949 and worked at Travelers Insurance for many years. She lived in Charlotte until 2015 when she moved to Longmont to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She loved going to Myrtle Beach, SC and went there as often as possible. One of the highlights of her life was taking a trip to South Africa to visit her grandchildren, daughter, and son-in-law. Betty was a wonderful, dedicated mother and grandmother and loved her children and grandchildren deeply. "Memaw", as she was known to her grandchildren, was always eager to help out whenever there was a need with her children or grandchildren, a fierce advocate for their safety and well-being. She was known for her bright smile, sweet spirit, quirky sense of humor, and independence.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Philemon, and Edna McClanahan Philemon; brother Richard Philemon, and her daughter Sheri Dawn Webb.
She is survived by daughter Melanie (Andrew) Human of Longmont, CO; grandson Joshua Webb of Greeley, CO; granddaughter Megan (Chris) Mitchell of Palm Beach Gardens, FL,; and grandson Matt Human of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hazel of Mint Hill, NC and sister-in-law Joyce Routh of Charlotte, NC.
She was loved by her neighbors and caregivers in Longmont, and deeply loved by her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will leave an empty space in our lives.
The family will have a private service to celebrate her life.
