
Bill J. Kowalski of Longmont died June 29th at Longmont United Hospital after a battle with lung cancer. Bill was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to Stanley and Grace Kowalski. He graduated from Enid High School, then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954, spending much of his service time in Western Europe. After leaving the Air Force he began work in the oil fields of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Venezuela as an electric logger. His logging experiences later took Bill to Pakistan where he worked on a water well drilling project for the Pakistani government. While there he met his future wife, Gwen, and they were married at Lahore in 1961.Later the same year Bill and Gwen returned to to the States where Bill began his career with the Federal Aviation Administration. They had homes in Oklahoma, Alaska and California before settling in Niwot, Colorado, in 1970 where they lived until Bill's retirement in 1988. Bill loved to spend time camping and fishing and being with his family. Some of his happiest days were spent exploring and walking the beaches of Port Aransas, Texas, and the coasts of Washington and Oregon. Bill is survived by his wife, Gwen, two sons, Thomas W. and John C. Kowalski, and four grandchildren; Nicholas, Sara, Robert, and Amanda. Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 9th, at LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Highway, with David Bradshaw officiating.
