Burdette Esther Johnson

Burdette Esther Johnson, a long time resident of Boulder and Larimer counties, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville. She was 84 years old. She was born July 19, 1924, in Pekin, Illinois, to Harry Dassing and Katherine (Miller) Dassing. She grew up in Illinois and Colorado, graduated from the Boulder School and attended the University of Colorado.Burdette met Henry Ardner Johnson at a dance at the Altona Grange. The couple was married on November 15, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder. They lived, worked, and raised their family on the farm until retiring to Loveland in 1987. The farm, which had been acquired under the Homestead Act of 1862, became a part of Boulder County Open Space in the late 1980s.Mrs. Johnson enjoyed picnics, scenic drives, and crafts. Burdette was also an avid gardener. She was a leader of Nimble Thimbles 4-H club for many years with sewing and home furnishing. She was also a PTA member and room mother at Niwot elementary for several years, and enjoyed listening to her daughters' music and their band.Survivors include three daughters, Sue Campbell and her husband, Larry, of Kennewick, Washington, Jill DeLand and her husband, Dick, of Boulder, and Linda Johnson of Boulder; five grandchildren, Melissa Ruzicka and her husband, Greg, and their children, Kaitlyn and Kevin, Eric DeLand, Larry Campbell and his wife, Kristen, and their children, Chase and Riley, Richard Campbell and his wife, Kristin, and Dale Campbell and his wife, Pam and their daughter, Saffron and son, Curran. She is also survived by a sister, Sharon Bramlette of Burfordville, MO.Her husband, Henry Johnson, preceded her in death on February 19, 2009. She was also preceded by her parents; an infant son, Kenneth Henry Johnson; an infant brother; and a sister, Kathy Madden.Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont.
