A graduate of Syracuse University, Carolyn worked as an audiology and speech pathology specialist. She was responsible for designing the first preschool program in Delaware County PA, to teach spoken language and lip reading to the Deaf.
Switching passions, Carolyn focused on and pursued her love of art. Starting out as an accomplished enamelist she later turned her attention to watercolors, refining her craft at the Art Students League of New York under Edgar A. Whitney, Bruce Dorfman, and Roberto DeLamonica.
Over a career spanning five decades, her work earned national recognition, numerous honors, and inclusion in prominent publications on contemporary watercolor. Museums, public institutions, and corporations across the United States collected her paintings. She was listed in Who’s Who in American Art.
Teaching formed a central part of Carolyn’s life. She served as an adjunct professor at the College of New Rochelle and Seton Hall University, led workshops nationwide, and mentored many students.
She is survived by her spouse Thomas Keith Pedersen, her son Thomas Scott Pedersen, her daughter Kirsten, her brother George Hanford, nieces, nephews and five grandchildren.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life and art will be announced at a later date. Those who wish to honor Carolyn's memory can make a tribute gift to the Parkinson's Foundation (https://parkinson.org)
