

Charles Wilbur Bickley, 91, passed away November 10, 2018 at Longmont United Hospital.He was born October 2, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to Harry and Madeline (Hobbs) Bickley. Charles enlisted in the United States Navy on November 14, 1945 and served on the USS Ottawa, USS Cinnamon and USS Repose. He was honorably discharged on October 3, 1947 with a rank of Fireman First Class.On July 8, 1948 he married Gloria Nichols in Saint George, Utah. They made their home in Newbury Park, CA until moving to Longmont in 1987.Charles working career began as a Bellman at the Knickerbocker Hotel in Los Angeles where he would become the manager of the hotel's dry cleaners. Here Charles met and knew many celebrities. In 1961 he began a commercial and residential cleaning business. Charles worked as a building maintenance supervisor for the cities of Thousand Oaks and Burbank.After moving to Longmont, he worked with Gloria as they managed the Castle Keep Storage until 2007.He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.Charles enjoyed being on Facebook, texting and riding around outside on his scooter.He was preceded in death by his son Doug in 2015 and wife Gloria on Nov. 3, 2016.Charles is survived by 2 daughters Patti Klitz and husband Gene of Chadron, NE and Sherri Reed and husband Cliff of Longmont; grandchildren Lance Bickley, Douglas Fudge, Bryan Reed and Travis Reed; great grandson Auston Fudge; and 2 half-sisters Joanne Kessell and Sandy Bradshaw.Graveside services will be held at 11:30am Monday, November 19, 2018 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
