

Damon Reynold Garcia of Erie, Colorado passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the age of 67, with his loving wife, Sandy, by his side. He had suffered a lengthy battle with multiple illnesses and disabilities.
Damon was born on August 1,1955 in La Junta, CO to Simon and Rose Garcia. The family moved to Louisville, CO in 1960. He resided there until the time of his enlistment in the United States Army in 1972, at the age of 17.
Damon was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of First Sergeant. Throughout his distinguished career of almost 23 years, he earned many honors and awards up to and including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and two Presidential Unit Citations. He served as First Sergeant in Iraq and Kuwait during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired in January 1995.
After his military retirement, Damon worked various jobs before his employment with Metro Wastewater Reclamation District. He began as a Grounds Maintenance Worker and was promoted to Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Health issues forced him to retire in 2017.
He married his first wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Benton, in South Carolina in 1974. They moved frequently as part of Damon's military service, but Colorado was always considered home. They had one daughter, Katrina. Damon moved to Broomfield, CO in 1992 after Cindy's death in 1991. There he met his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Kruhmin and her three sons Michael, David, and Christopher. He raised them as his own...stepson was never in his vocabulary. They lived together for 7 years before their marriage in 2001. Damon enjoyed family gatherings, grandkids, the family dogs, helping others, and many hobbies including woodworking, cooking, and fishing.
Damon is survived by his wife Sandy Garcia, daughter Katrina "Tina" Lacy (Michael), sons Michael Kruhmin (Sara), David Kruhmin (Brianna), and Christopher Kruhmin (Anne Marie), 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a sister.
A Visitation was held for Damon on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, followed by his Funeral Service. The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who were able to a attend and those that joined them for the Gathering of Family & Friends at the Elks Lodge. Damon was laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
